Philadelphia Feeling

1.   The picture above is one of the many reasons I like this city. Everywhere we went there was evidence of the city's commitment to being 'green'. From the solar powered compactor trash cans (that reduce the waste by 80%) to the recycling bins to the 'green powered' buses. We even passed an old building that was being renovated and it highlighted in each of the windows the many ways the renovation was green.

2.   Clean city.

3.   Friendly people

4.   Deep sense of history.

5.   Great shops & restaurants. Although the majority of restaurants are BYOB - which is great but you need to know where the closest wine shop is!

6.   Public art. There is an awesome mural program in the city. I think there are 30 throughout the city. There are also fabulous outdoor sculptures beyond the iconic "LOVE" and historical figures

7.   Green space. Fairmount park, Rittenhouse Square, The Independence Hall mall, to name a few, are all excellent examples of the city honoring William Penn's vision of green space in the city. Penn laid out the city in a 2 mile grid beginning back in the late 1600's from the Pennsylvania statehouse and named the north-south streets with tree names and the E-W streets numbers. As a result, the city is very easy to navigate.

8.   Museum Art. The Rodin Museum and The Philadelphia Museum were the main two we visited and we were impressed with the size of their art collections. We saw Renior, Degas, Manet, Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec, Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns, to name a few.

I'll have to add more after we land.
