William often doesn't ask to paint, color or do much that lies within the realm of "art". This morning he took out all the paint bottles and watercolors and was having a 'painting' class. I sat down to get a lesson and he asked if we could really use the paints. Despite my bad-mom-inner-voice that said 'oh, we only have 30 minutes of free time and this will be a pain to clean up' I said yes. He methodically selected his paints. First I limited him to three colors, then I buckled and allowed two more and before I knew it we had them all out. Little glops in 10 cups with 10 brushes. After creating about three works of art (one of which, surprisingly, wasn't a slide) he wanted to do the watercolors. We experimented with those for a bit and then hung all the paintings out to dry.
This featured selection below was the only one that wasn't a slide (he favorite thing to 'draw'). This is an abstract portrait of his family. He is brown, Erin is green and Jim and I are the blue blobs. I guess I have sort of let myself go, as you can see in this picture.
