Behind the Scenes at the Library

William always wants to know what is going on behind the desk and doors of the library.  He wonders where the books go after you drop them in the slot.  How do they know we turned in our books.  Why do we have to keep those little cards in the pocket of the books.  I am guessing these questions keep him up at night (because he sure is up enough lately).  I signed him up for this special program called "Behind the Scenes at the Library".  Last night I explained what we were doing this morning and he was as excited as if I told him we were going to the zoo.  This morning on the way to the library he was practically skipping down the sidewalk when he turned and looked up at me and said "This is going to be so awesome."

We arrived on time and there was a group of about 6 children and their adults.  They took us to all of the different rooms and we got to see how they put the plastic protective covers on the book, where they repair books, clean CD's & DVD's, where they store all the story time supplies, and of course, the other side of the book drop!!  The book drop on the alley side of the library has a huge slide from the drop to the bins.  We were fortunate enough to have someone drop off books while we were in there.  The kids also got to see where the library workers check in books.  Each child had the opportunity to check in a book (see image below).    William told me multiple times that his class was 'awesome' so I think it was worth the trip!
