Goin' to the Dogs

From January 2010
Sunday we went out to the Arboretum to check out the Siberian Huskies and see the sledding demonstrations.  This was a special event that they do every year but we have always skipped because it was too cold.  Well this year was no different, it was absolutely freezing!

The snow had melted too much in the previous few days so instead of hooking the dogs up to sleds or people on ski's, they had wheeled vehicles.  It didn't look quite as fun as sailing across the snow. As the folks came by us on their wheeled scooters they looked like they were holding on for dear life, vibrating and jumping along.  We enjoyed the demonstration along with many other folks who braved the elements to visit the Arboretum.

They had Huskies that were available for adoption walking around with handlers.  The kids enjoyed petting them and learning their names.  The were so beautiful and soft, it was a real treat to give them some lovin'.

After visiting the Huskies we headed over to the Children's garden.  This was not the first choice of the parents, we were freezing!! It is amazing how numb they are to the cold.  It just doesn't phase them like us oldsters!  Here is Erin trying to 'ice skate' on the water frozen water trough in the garden.  They had a blast climbing and digging and running.  Jim and I just hopped in place and hoped they would tire quickly.
