Construction Day 2

The workers were greeted this morning by an incredibly cute 4 year old in a yellow hard hat, safety glasses and a leather tool belt full of tools.  He was wielding a kid sized Bosch chain saw and making some serious progress on some of the walls.  This construction project is like a little boys dream (or perhaps a cautious mother's nightmare) with saws, nailers, compressors, exposed conduit, and small holes where you can see straight through to the basement.  I wish I had captured a picture but I didn't and now the poor guy is laid up with the stomach flu.  Hopefully he will recover quickly and get back to work.  Those walls don't frame themselves!

More progress was made today!   It is amazing how fast everything comes down and the new walls go up.  It makes you wonder why the whole project takes so long. Of course considering plumbing, electrical, drywalling, etc....there is still so much more to go.

This is a shot from the doorway to the guest bedroom. The closet has been completely removed and you can see through the former wall into our sitting room.

Below is a picture looking into the office area.  Jim removed the wall of cabinetry weeks ago and it now is in place at Deb & Bill's condo.  They have framed out for the closets and the bathroom at the very end.

There will be three closet doors.  The first one will open right to left and will house coats and such for visitors.  The closet next to that will be double doors and hold other miscellaneous supplies.  The office has been walled off with a plastic wall to keep the dust to a minimum.  They didn't put that one up until today so it was pretty dusty in there from yesterday's destruction.  I have temporarily moved all of my stuff (computer, files, etc) up into our bedroom.

Along the floor to the left you can see a line in the wood.  This is where they are installing the recessed track to house the sliding doors.  They have installed the upper track into the ceiling to give it a floating wall look rather than a sliding door.  It is all looking fabulous.

Jim has been busy this evening (after taking shifts with William) measuring everything and double checking drawings.  So far so good!  We'll keep up with another posting tomorrow.
