Arboretum at the end of the Summer

Usually there is no place I would rather be than the Morton Arboretum.  Any season, rain or shine, it is the most beautiful place within 10 minutes of my house.  William and his friend/neighbor Sydney are taking a class for an hour on Thursdays.  They are learning about the parts of plants, what type of plants have roots we eat (or can eat - I am not sure William has met a root he likes yet), and how to grow a plant.  Today they came out of class with a big surprise - a huge, mature Monarch butterfly ready to be released.  I think butterflies are spectacular creatures and that their whole life cycle is a brilliant testament to the wonders of nature.  This brightly colored Monarch was ready for release and the children were anticipating the event.  The teacher unzipped the case after everyone had one last look, and then the butterfly swiftly flew to her freedom.

HI Colleen! William is looking so grown up! I see you discovered my blog. It is mainly a papercrafting blog. I started it so I could enter some challenges but it has evolved!

Peter is spending the night tomorrow night. I am looking forward to having him.
