A Spontaneous trip to the Children's Museum

Last Friday, the 21st we decided to head to Naperville to check out the Children's Museum. The kids had been asking to go for some time, but with Erin's school schedule it is difficult to go anywhere for a period of time. I figured the kids would have a good hour and a half there so what the heck.

For those of you who have been to this particular museum, it is fantastic, but ALWAYS mobbed. It makes it very unpleasant for me (besides the fact that I can't help but see the place as a huge germ farm!). Anyhow, we arrived about 3:30 on Friday and the place was EMPTY! I couldn't believe it. The kids ran from activity to activity without having to compete for drumsticks or microscope slides or a turn steering the car! The best part was that they finally got to go in the woodshop. They have wanted to do this for ages and either there was too long of a line or William was just too little. Well we were practically the only people in the woodshop and had lots of help building! As Norm always says, Safety first! so we all had to wear eye protection. The kids looked so cute I couldn't resist a picture. Erin built an airplane and William just hammered, sawed, and drilled a block of wood to his hearts content! The second picture is of William at the microscopes upstairs. He spent a long time looking very carefully at a dozen slides, adjusting the magnification and really examining each one. Perhaps he'll be our little scientist. And I am sure you will find us at the Children's Museum on many more Friday afternoons this winter.

You'll have to check out the new Children's Museum downtown when you visit this holiday. It's great!
