Who's idea was this??

So as you can imagine, opening walls can also lead to learning about some deep, dark secrets about your house.  What we found when we opened up the kitchen ceiling was that our master bath shower and toilet have been leaking enough to cause some major rot.  Treating and fixing this problem is not part of the original budget!


When we first discovered it we thought we could just scrape it and bleach it.  But as the days have gone on, we realize that the shower is actively leaking.  Each day Jim caulks more areas around & inside the shower and each day it seems to drip more!  Today Jim and our contractor Chris started poking around and the floor just disintegrated around them.  It is totally gross if you ask me.


Tonight Jim has begun cutting away all of the rotted flooring in an attempt to open things up from the bottom and perhaps find out where the leak is originating. Then he'll start opening up the shower base upstairs.  Who knows where it all will lead.  But for now I am going to watch where I walk in the bathroom.
